How the Service Enhances Quality of Life

Immersive VR experiences have been shown to significantly reduce anxiety and improve mood for adults with disabilities. In practice, clients often find the VR worlds highly engaging and calming, providing positive sensory stimulation. The Immersive Room’s experiences can be both soothing (e.g., gentle nature scenes to relax) and stimulating (interactive puzzles to improve cognition). By engaging multiple senses at once, we help clients focus and feel present, which can lessen depression and sensory processing difficulties.

The technology also allows clients with limited mobility to experience activities they can’t do physically (like swimming with dolphins or exploring a jungle), which greatly enriches their daily life. In summary, our Immersive Room provides therapeutic entertainment that boosts mental well-being and sensory processing.

Frequently Ask Questions

Clients sit surrounded by screens. They can “travel” to different places or worlds. For example, they might explore a coral reef, watch fireworks, or play virtual catch. It feels very real and interactive.

We screen for contraindications. If someone has a history of seizures, we choose non-flashing, gentler experiences. VR systems can adjust brightness and focus. For visual impairments, we use large, clear visuals using our projection system instead.

Most programs are automatic or gesture-controlled (e.g., reaching out picks up a virtual object). It’s very intuitive. We explain what to do before starting. Some clients just look around and enjoy the view; others can perform actions with their hands or voice.

Our programs are chosen to minimize motion sickness. Because the room is padded and clients may remain seated, it’s uncommon. If someone feels uncomfortable, we stop immediately. We start with short sessions (5–10 minutes) and gradually increase as tolerated.

Not always. We have large projection screens and gentle motion chairs that don’t require a headset, for those who prefer it.

Studies show VR sensory rooms can reduce anxiety and depression, and improve sensory processing in people with disabilities. It provides experiences that boost mood and can also be used for cognitive exercises (memory games, puzzles).

Typically one-on-one, due to the equipment. However, we also have group scenarios on shared screens (like a giant fish tank to watch together) to encourage social interaction.

We monitor clients closely. The software has a therapist control panel to pause or slow down effects. If a client seems stressed, we switch to calmer scenes (like a quiet garden).

Initial sessions are 15–20 minutes, then extended as clients get used to it. Overall we limit any session to about an hour with breaks to avoid fatigue.

Immersive therapy is often part of physiotherapy or sensory programs. Coverage varies. We can provide documentation for therapists or payors explaining its therapeutic benefits.
